Dr. King National Holiday and Day of Communnity Service

• The Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Park, 1515 SE Monroe Street is hosting the Student Recognition Awards program in the Auditorium. The first, second, and third place winners of the MLK Art, Essay, and Poetry Competitions will be recognized at 10:30 am. The winning student artwork will be on display. Musical selections will be provided by Cierra Jackson.

 

“Whose Dream Is It?” and the Topeka Center for Peace and Justice in partnership with Living the Dream, Inc. is sponsoring its 32nd Annual Community MLK Celebration and Chili and Soup Dinner at the First Baptist Church, 3033 SW MacVicar Avenue. The free dinner starts at 5:30 pm followed by the program at 7:00 pm. Rev. James Terrance, Jr., Pastor of the Friendship Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO is the guest speaker.  Musical selections will be provided by the Westside Christian Church Bell Ringers and Minister Joseph Perry and the New Mount Zion Church Choir.

 

• The Topeka Rescue Mission Ministries, Inc. is hosting a King Holiday National Day of Service” in partnership with Living the Dream, Inc. Volunteers will be sorting clothing and serving meals. Volunteers should check in at the Shelter Building located at 600 N. Kansas Avenue. All volunteers must be twelve years of age or older unless accompanied by an adult.Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and bring canned soups and vegetables, tuna, and peanut butter.
